The Bristol Academy Flyers have achieved national recognition by finishing fourth and securing a home playoff draw in their first ever season in National League Division 1, the second highest level of British basketball.
The Bristol side completed its fantastic league season last weekend with an impressive 106 to 96 home victory against the Sheffield Arrows. This win sealed the Flyers league record to 10 wins and 8 losses and kept Bristol’s hopes of a fourth place finish and home playoff draw alive. These hopes became a reality after Leopards loss to Worthing this weekend.
Now the Flyers have a home playoff quarter-final on Saturday 5th April versus the London Leopards. A win will advance the Flyers to the Division 1 Playoffs Final Four in Sheffield to battle it out for the Playoff Championship.
The Flyers have fallen short in both encounters this season against the young and talented London Leopards side. However playoffs are a different story as Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas says:
“Leopards have narrowly beaten us twice in the league this season but a playoff game is different. We have come along way since the last time we played them and our team has improved in lot of areas. Defensive intensity and the ability to get stops will prove critical in the playoffs and our players need to understand and work on this during this week.”
“Both teams are pretty similar with a number of players that can step up and take over the game. The team that will adjust better during the game and make the fewer mistakes will be the one with the more chances to progress to the Final Four. Obviously playing in front of our home crowd will be a major factor and we hope to use it to our advantage. Our players realise how well they have done this year but want to take it a step further. We really look forward to game time.”
The Bristol Academy Flyers Playoff Quarter-Final will be Saturday April 5th 7.30pm at the Filton College WISE campus Arena. Tickets will be £3 for adults and £1.50 for concessions.
Tickets will be available at reception.
