Flyers II stay top of the table with hard fought away win.

Bristol Academy Flyers II stayed top Division IV South West with a hard fought 54 point to 52 point win in Plymouth.

Flyers II were less than convincing during the game but managed to scrape a win in the final quarter of the game. The team were again plagued by injuries which meant the squad which travelled to Plymouth was far less experienced than any that had played a game all year long.
Flyers however, managed to record a win against a young Tamar Valley Canons team who fought tooth and nail throughout the game and came very close to causing a huge upset.
The game was a low scoring affair and was due mainly to both sides inability to finish easy baskets including free throws. Flyers really struggled from the line and shot only 4 from 13 in the final quarter which allowed Canons the chance to get back within 2 points of the Flyers.
Fortunately Flyers were able to hold onto the win and use the experience they did have to close out the game with a hard fought victory away from home.

“ Today we were plagued by injury and missed far too many free throws in the final 10 minutes, on any other day this would have meant we would have lost. Fortunately we were able to have control when it was needed and make some good decisions in the last few seconds of the game which gave us a very tough win. In the weeks to come we hope to have some key players back which will help us. Fortunately this win still keeps us in top spot and with a weekend off next week we will have an extra weekend of recovery for the injured players” Quotes Danny James, Head Coach.

Flyers leading scorers were: L Treasure 10, J Major 9, and A Gayle 9
