Under 16’s Play-off round 2
Season ends on high despite defeat
Flyers Under 16 travelled to Milton Keynes, this weekend, to take on one of the best teams in the country in the play off 2nd round and can be extremely proud of their performance despite a 103-67 defeat.
The match started at a high tempo with some strong play from the starting 5, Joe Packwood, Josh Rogers, Luke Kay, Jack Griffin and Luke Kay which gave the Flyers an early lead.
The Lions played to their strengths with Harry Turner scoring heavily under the basket to give MK a 28-17 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter followed a similar pattern with the Flyers playing with high intensity, especially Chris McMenamin and Reuben Ward, but the Lions used their height advantage well and went into the half time break leading 48-32.
The 3rd quarter started well for the Flyers with Luke Kay scoring heavily and Jack Staynings showing great intensity, forcing the Lions to change to a Zone defence.
In the final quarter Coach Reed used all the squad with Scott Reed bagging a great jump shot and Jake Foster using the basketball intelligently.
After the game, Coaches Reed and Coles thanked the players for their efforts this season, which saw the team crowned South West Conference champions and get to the 2nd round of the play-offs making this the most successful season in the Under 16’s history.
